A citizens’ assembly will be held on Tuesday or, at the latest, Wednesday to organize a demonstration scheduled for September 6th against the eviction of the Leoncavallo social center. Meanwhile, militants from the historic center will meet as early as Monday to discuss among themselves how to build mobilization efforts following their eviction from Via Watteau.
Every decision regarding the protest, however, will be made next week, explain militants from Italy’s most famous social center, which will mark its 50th anniversary in 2025. They note that many people are still on vacation, but it is already known that the September 6th event “will be a major mobilization, because people want to come from everywhere.”
“By the middle of next week, the demonstration’s platform and slogans will be defined,” the activists added. They also stated that they have not yet been contacted by the court-appointed custodian to arrange the retrieval of all equipment stored on Via Watteau, which is essential for managing the space and its activities. At the moment, they clarified, “there has been no communication with the City Council,” which, as reported by the mayor, had not been notified of the eviction.
