Lazio Governor Pledges Continued Support on Ninth Anniversary of Central Italy Earthquake

Nine years ago, on August 24, 2016, an earthquake devastated the heart of central Italy, claiming lives, homes, and dreams. While the pain remains vivid today, equally strong is the extraordinary resilience of the communities that have never stopped believing in the future. Reconstruction efforts are being accelerated with determination to make up for lost time, starting with the hospital in Amatrice, the beating heart of a territory that must return to life.

Lazio Region President Francesco Rocca stated in a release that he recently conducted an inspection of the site, calling it a personal commitment and a moral duty to a community that deserves to regain its healthcare services and dignity. He acknowledged that while reconstruction is complex, the hospital represents a concrete signal of rebirth. This project joins the many active construction sites, houses once again welcoming families, and squares beginning to fill with voices.

Rocca offered a clear message to all affected communities: “You are not alone.” He concluded by affirming that the Lazio Region will continue to walk alongside them with respect, listening, and commitment, praising their courage and resilience as an example. He renewed his promise that reconstruction will continue, step by step, until these lands are once again full of life, future, and hope.
