Lazio defender Oliver Provstgaard has declared the team “must deliver a great season” after last year’s disappointing finish, stating the campaign is “very important for us.” In an interview with club channels, the Danish center-back praised coach Maurizio Sarri as “a great manager with big ideas,” highlighting a tactical shift: “Last year we man-marked heavily, but now Sarri wants us to build play with the ball.”
Provstgaard described his adaptation since arriving in February: “My first months were very good and crucial for my growth. I feel comfortable now and am playing more in friendlies. I want to play with personality—Italian football is far more physical than Denmark’s. Facing strong players like Romelu Lukaku, Napoli’s squad, and Duvan Zapata was vital for me to adjust.”
He expressed excitement about debuting at the Stadio Olimpico: “I love our stadium; our fans are incredible—I can’t wait to play there.” Regarding role models, he named Virgil van Dijk: “He excels both in ball-playing and defensive duties.”
When asked about the Ballon d’Or, Provstgaard predicted: “It’s very tough. I’d love Lamine Yamal to win, but I don’t think it will be that simple. My bet is on Ousmane Dembélé.”
