The memory card from the GoPro camera used by Sebastiano Visintin was formatted, resulting in the deletion of all its recorded content. Visintin had used the camera to document a bicycle ride on the Karst plateau on the morning of December 14, 2021—the same day his wife, Liliana Resinovich, vanished. Her body was later discovered on January 5 in a nearby wooded area.
The development concerning the SD card was reported today on the Mediaset program ‘Dentro la notizia,’ hosted by Gianluigi Nuzzi. According to the report, the Postal Police informed the lead prosecutor on the case, Maddalena Chergia, that the deletion occurred on June 13, 2023, at approximately 8:37 PM. This date is highly significant, as it is the same day the preliminary investigations judge (GIP) of the Trieste Court, Luigi Dainotti, rejected a motion to dismiss the case and instead ordered new, more detailed investigations into over 20 points.
The card is now effectively empty. Visintin had previously referred to these videos as his alibi, claiming he had downloaded them to his mobile phone at the time and provided them to investigators. He later stated he formatted that same phone and gave it to a friend.
Sergio Resinovich, the brother of the victim, commented: “Nothing surprises me; it’s the same old Sebastiano with his usual shell game. There are many inconsistencies in his statements. I hope the new prosecutor’s office, which I have the utmost confidence in, will quickly shed light on this as well, including the matter of the formatted phone he gave to his friend.”
Visintin remains the sole suspect under investigation for the murder of Liliana Resinovich. Meanwhile, new examinations ordered by Trieste GIP Flavia Mangiante began today at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Ancona. These tests will focus on genetic, merchandising, and fingerprint analysis of evidence collected during the investigation. The initial examination is of the jacket found on the victim’s body, where experts have already identified traces of DNA and textile fibers not belonging to the garment.
“We are pleased with the very precise and meticulous approach, which will shed light on what can still be deduced from the examination of the existing evidence,” said Federica Obizzi, the lawyer representing Liliana’s granddaughter, Veronica Resinovich.
