Justice Minister Carlo Nordio has issued a forceful statement defending his chief of staff, Dr. Giusi Bartolozzi, amidst ongoing media reports concerning her alleged role in the Almasri case. Nordio stated he reviewed the ministerial court’s reasoning and subsequent media conjecture, dismissing as “childish” any suggestion that Bartolozzi acted autonomously.
“Just as Prime Minister Meloni found it surreal that her ministers would act without her consent,” Nordio declared, “I similarly find it childish to hypothesize that my chief of cabinet acted independently. I reiterate that all, absolutely all of her actions were carried out executing my orders, for which I obviously assume full political and legal responsibility.”
Nordio expressed “dismay” and “horror” at the suggestion that any potential indictment of his aide could be a tactic to shift a matter currently within Parliament’s purview to the criminal justice system. He condemned such a move as “a political instrumentalization of Justice.”
The minister concluded by urging an end to the insinuations and calling for Parliament to definitively rule on his ministry’s role, as per Constitutional Law, restating, “I am its sole and responsible head.”
