Italy’s chargé d’affaires in Moscow, Giovanni Scopa, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, which lodged a formal protest over what it termed an “anti-Russian campaign in Italy’s information space” and the Italian government’s “disproportionate reaction” to a list of statements. The Russian ministry had posted these declarations as examples of what it called “hate speech” against Russia.

European equity markets rose after Wall Street’s opening bell, with Frankfurt’s DAX leading the charge
