Luca Cecca, an Italian volunteer fighting alongside Ukrainian forces, has been killed. Cecca, who had been missing since December 2024, was confirmed dead. The announcement was made on the Facebook profile of the Memorial International Volunteer for Ukraine, which commemorates foreign fighters who have died in the conflict.
The memorial’s post, accompanied by a photograph of Cecca, read: “Our beloved Italian brother, Luca Cecca, who served in Ukraine as a volunteer, has fallen on the battlefield. Honour, glory and gratitude to our brother.” Informed sources have confirmed the 34-year-old Roman’s death. Other sources report he was killed in combat in the Donetsk region, which has been de facto annexed by Russia.
The memorial also announced the deaths of a Colombian volunteer, Jimmy Mosquera Cuero, and a French volunteer, Erik Coursier. Cecca is the ninth Italian national to die in the war in Ukraine, following Thomas D’Alba, Antonio Omar Dridi, Manuel Mameli, Angelo Costanza, Massimiliano Galletti, Elia Putzolu (who had fought on the pro-Russian side), Benjamin Giorgio Galli, and Edy Ongaro.
