Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa has denounced what he described as “shameful urban guerrilla warfare” by groups claiming to be pacifists. In a statement on Facebook, La Russa said law enforcement, citizens, and workers were “taken hostage for hours” by the occupation of motorways and railway stations and the “unacceptable violence” of hundreds of delinquents. He stated these actions, occurring in cities from Milan and Rome to Bologna, have nothing to do with protesting the situation in Gaza and should be condemned by everyone. La Russa expressed his “strong, true, and sincere solidarity” with the police who were attacked, citizens, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whom he said was once again the victim of “cowardly threats.”
