Italian Judges Defend Independence Amid Political Attacks

Italy’s magistrates perform their duties daily despite facing insults, intimidation, and an ongoing campaign of delegitimization that undermines the very foundations of the democratic state, declared the Central Executive Board of the National Association of Magistrates (ANM). The statement cited Article 101 of the Constitution, affirming: “Justice is administered in the name of the people. Judges are subject only to the law,” describing it as a cornerstone of Italian democracy. The ANM asserted the judiciary will continue fulfilling its responsibilities with deep respect for its constitutional mandate. “There exists no scheme against the executive; claiming otherwise demonstrates a failure to understand the functioning of the separation of powers within the State,” the association concluded.
