Italian Fugitives Arrested in Ibiza on European Warrant for Mafia-Linked Drug Trafficking

On August 15th, Carabinieri from the ROS (Special Operations Group), acting on the orders of the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), arrested three Italian fugitives in Ibiza. The individuals were subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by a preliminary investigations judge (GIP) in Rome for their involvement in an association aimed at international drug trafficking, aggravated by the use of mafia methods. The operation was conducted in coordination with Spain’s *Comisarìa General de Información* of the *Policía Nacional*.

The arrests are part of the ROS’s “Operation Anemone” investigation, which previously led to the arrest of 24 people across Italy and Albania on July 8th.

According to an official statement, “The fugitives tracked down and arrested in Spain are strongly suspected of being prominent elements of a criminal organization of the ‘Ndrangheta dedicated to drug trafficking.” The note explained that the group was based in Rome and was headed by a 57-year-old Calabrian man, arrested last July, who was previously convicted as a top member of the ‘Ndrangheta local of Volpiano (Turin), a criminal offshoot of the one based in Platì (Reggio Calabria).

Investigations revealed that the 57-year-old suspect moved to Rome in the early 2000s and took control of the San Basilio area. His three sons were also part of the criminal organization.
