Israel will not participate in the upcoming Levante Fair in Bari, scheduled for September 13-21. The fair’s organizing body announced the decision, acting on an appeal made by Bari Mayor Vito Leccese. On July 1st, Mayor Leccese had called for Israel’s exclusion from all institutional and economic activities within the Bari fair district.
The fair stated its action stems from “shared ethical and political views,” adding that it had “immediately and clearly distanced itself from the atrocities of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.” Furthermore, the organization endorsed and became a promoter of an initiative by the ‘L’isola che non c’è’ foundation of Latiano to nominate the children of Gaza for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
In a statement, the fair described this nomination as “a moral appeal to the international community to recognize the right to peace and life for every child, everywhere in the world.”
