An Atlantic weather disturbance, moving in from France, is expected to reach Italy in the coming hours, bringing unstable meteorological conditions across most of the northern regions and partially into central areas. The national Civil Protection agency has issued the warning.
The alert forecasts scattered to widespread precipitation, primarily in the form of thunderstorms, beginning this afternoon, Tuesday, August 19th. The storms will initially affect the Aosta Valley and Piedmont before extending to Liguria, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, and Tuscany. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy downpours, frequent lightning, local hailstorms, and strong wind gusts.
Based on the current and forecasted conditions, an orange alert has been assessed for part of Liguria and Lombardy for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20th. A yellow alert is in place for the remaining sectors of these two regions, as well as for Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Tuscany, and some sectors of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Marche.
