Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has announced he recently underwent surgery to remove a skin cancer tumor. The 58-year-old television personality thanked “incredible” medical professionals for their work and used the experience to urge his fans to wear sunscreen. In an Instagram post reported by The Guardian, Ramsay revealed the procedure removed a basal cell carcinoma, a form of non-melanoma skin cancer. A photo accompanying the post showed dressings under his ear where the tumor was excised.
“I am grateful and thankful for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their quick intervention to remove this basal cell carcinoma, thank you,” said the star of shows like *Hell’s Kitchen* and *MasterChef*. He added a note of caution and humor, stating, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend, I promise it’s not a facelift!”
Ramsay received an outpouring of support from fellow television figures, celebrities, and his daughter, Holly, who commented on the post, “Love you dad,” followed by a heart emoji. The charity Cancer Research UK also responded to the post, writing: “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for helping raise awareness of how important it is to protect yourself from the sun. Seek shade, cover up and regularly apply sunscreen generously.”
