A German tourist lost his life saving his two young children after they fell into the water on the Lecco side of Lake Como, opposite the town of Dorio, on Monday afternoon. According to initial reports, the man was on a boat when he dove in to rescue the children. He successfully brought them to safety but was then swallowed by the lake’s strong currents and failed to resurface.
Other tourists on the shore raised the alarm after witnessing the man submerge and not return. The search operation involved a fire department helicopter and an ambulance boat. The exact dynamics of the incident are still under investigation.
