A German hiker has died after falling from trail number 500, known as the Troi de le Calade, in the Bosconero mountain group of the Belluno Dolomites. A companion who witnessed the fall alerted emergency services (118) at 2:30 PM.
A rescue helicopter from the Suem emergency service in Pieve di Cadore located the man’s body. He had fallen approximately eighty meters into a gully and tumbled another twenty meters before coming to rest against a tree. An Alpine Rescue team from Val di Zoldo was also deployed to the site.
A rescue technician and a doctor, lowered by winch, could only confirm the man’s death. The body was recovered and transported to a landing zone, where it was transferred to local carabinieri police and a funeral home.
This is the second fatal hiking incident in the region in two days. It comes just one day after Alpine Rescue guide Franco Gasparri lost his life in a fall from the Cima Grande di Lavaredo.
