A 58-year-old man, wanted for over 14 years for his alleged involvement in a series of brutal murders in his native Colombia, has been tracked down and arrested by police in Rome. The individual was the subject of a final conviction handed down in 2011 for his role, in concert with others, in four homicides committed between January and August 2002 in the Cundinamarca region.
The killings were classified as part of an unofficial “social cleansing” operation that targeted homeless people and thieves. Following his conviction, the man vanished, becoming a fugitive.
His flight came to an end when officers from the Flying Squad and the Fiumicino police station located him at a guesthouse on the southeastern outskirts of the capital, where he had just been registered.
The fifty-eight-year-old, identified as the wanted man, was transferred to Civitavecchia prison. He has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, which validated the arrest during a hearing.
