The Friuli Venezia Giulia region is pioneering a new approach to tourism promotion by entering the world of video games. The announcement was made during the presentation of new in-game environments for the popular game Fortnite, which will include digital recreations of several locations from the region.
Governor Massimiliano Fedriga and Emanuele Acerbis, CEO of Novo Esports and the project’s creator, revealed that players will be able to explore virtual versions of Trieste, Gorizia, Pordenone, Udine, and Palmanova. Fedriga emphasized that this initiative makes Friuli Venezia Giulia the first Italian region to sponsor itself through a major game like Fortnite, which he noted is one of the most followed titles globally and is played by a third of all Italians.
The new FVG map will be accessible starting September 20th. A subsequent tournament will be organized in Milan, featuring a dedicated regional stand, with the top five winners receiving vouchers for a stay in the Tarvisiano area. Acerbis explained that distinctive landmarks from each city were identified and recreated in 3D using Fortnite’s signature art style. The goal is to accurately replicate the region to introduce its beauty to the game’s vast player base.
The presentation highlighted Fortnite’s immense reach, with over 650 million users worldwide, including 14 million in Italy.
