A four-month-old infant died this evening at their home in Settimo San Pietro, a small town on the outskirts of Cagliari, Sardinia. The precise circumstances of the death are still under investigation, though initial reports suggest the child was the victim of a tragic household accident. Carabinieri officials have confirmed the incident appears to be accidental, with no foul play suspected.
Efforts by emergency medical services and a subsequent rush to Brotzu Hospital were unfortunately unsuccessful in saving the child. Carabinieri from the Quartu company were also on the scene. Military officials described the situation as “highly delicate.”
The exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy remains to be fully clarified. However, based on preliminary reconstructions, the newborn reportedly rolled off a surface and became trapped in the gap between a bed and a nightstand. The child’s mother was in an adjacent room at the time and discovered the incident upon returning. She immediately raised the alarm, prompting the arrival of 118 emergency doctors.
Medics attempted to resuscitate the infant for approximately half an hour before a desperate dash to the hospital was made. The child, however, was declared deceased upon arrival.
