A foreign unaccompanied minor remains in grave condition—though displaying vital signs—after attempting suicide late yesterday evening at Treviso’s juvenile prison. The youth reportedly used his jeans as a ligature shortly before midnight.
“We did everything possible to save him,” stated Antonio Sangermano, Head of the Juvenile Justice Department, expressing solidarity with the teenager. The minor, temporarily held at Treviso’s Reception Center (CPA) adjacent to the juvenile prison, had been arrested shortly before the incident.
Prison police responded immediately, summoning the on-site medical officer from the adult penitentiary. The physician arrived within minutes and performed emergency resuscitation. The youth was subsequently transferred to Treviso Hospital’s emergency department, where he remains critically ill but with active respiration and heartbeat.
The Department emphasized the “promptness and professionalism” of the prison officers’ intervention, noting two agents initiated life-saving procedures. Authorities also highlighted the “exceptional speed” of the medical response.
