Firefighters Battle Twin Wildfires in Italy’s Abruzzo Region

Two major wildfires are taxing emergency resources in Italy’s Abruzzo region. The first blaze has engulfed over 50 hectares on Mount Salviano near Capistrello, where two helicopters and a Canadair water bomber operate with ground support from firefighting crews and regional Civil Protection teams.

A separate fire has raged since yesterday afternoon across approximately 40 hectares of woodland in Pescina. The regional “Red Lynx” helicopter is deployed while local farmers use tractors to carve firebreaks through the terrain.

Maurizio Scelli, director of Abruzzo’s Civil Protection Agency, personally oversaw operations in Pescina due to the fire’s complexity. During his assessment, Scelli publicly commended the tireless efforts of Civil Protection personnel and firefighters.

Regional authorities reiterated urgent warnings for residents to maintain extreme vigilance amid current high-risk fire conditions.
