A wildfire that erupted late this morning in Succhivo, a hamlet within the Serrara Fontana municipality on Ischia’s southwestern slopes, is now under control.
Fueled by strong Mistral winds, flames rapidly spread through the Cava Ruffano ravine, devouring several hectares of vegetation. The fire encroached on residential properties and reached the thermal park of a hotel complex in the village of Sant’Angelo. As a precaution, guests were evacuated for several hours.
Substantial firefighting resources were deployed to combat the blaze. This included on-duty island firefighters, multiple teams of volunteers from the Civil Protection Department and regional wildfire agency Sma Campania, plus two Canadair water-bomber aircraft and three helicopters. The aerial support proved crucial in containing the fire.
Serrara Fontana Mayor Irene Iacono confirmed firefighters and Civil Protection personnel will monitor the situation overnight, coordinating with the emergency operations center at the Naples Prefecture. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation by fire officials.
