During a lengthy and chaotic Instagram Live from a Trastevere restaurant with Fabrizio Biggio, showman Rosario Fiorello announced his return to radio. The host confirmed he will be back on Rai Radio2 in October with his former program, ‘La Pennicanza,’ which previously aired at 1:45 PM.
Wearing a cap styled like Jovanotti’s and sporting injuries to his nose and lips from a recent bicycle fall, Fiorello was prompted by Biggio, who had started the live stream, to “tell the audience we are coming back.” Fiorello needed little encouragement, declaring, “In this outdated landscape, we are a breath of fresh air. Those who are younger are doing things older than us old guys. We have to return.” When asked for the timing, he initially joked, “I don’t know,” before confirming an October comeback. He also promised interim evening live broadcasts from his own Instagram account, teasing Biggio that his account was “unlucky.”
“Radio2, wait for us,” he added, detailing that the show would be the same ‘La Pennicanza’ that signed off on June 6th. “We only did it for fifteen days; we can’t stop like that. We will be a breath of fresh air,” Fiorello stated. He explained that hearing of Rai’s potential purchase of ‘Ok il prezzo è giusto’ (The Price Is Right) was a catalyst, convincing him to return. He emphasized this is not a new program but a continuation of their previous work, insisting, “It must remain like that; we don’t have to prepare anything. Woe betide anyone who comes with an idea. Times are very tough, so we need to return; a window of lightness is needed. In October.”
He also briefly addressed the visible mark on his nose, attributing it to a bicycle accident in front of his home. “I braked with the left hand; I didn’t think the brakes were so powerful,” he said, joking that he wouldn’t reveal the brand for fear of it being stolen.
Furthermore, Fiorello revealed he is considering taking the radio show to the ATP Finals tennis tournament in Turin, scheduled for November 9-16.
The program closed on June 6th with a promise to return, which has now been confirmed for October. The final episode featured guest Jovanotti, whose signature cap Fiorello wore during the announcement, making it a potential good luck charm for the new season.
