A family traveling with their small dog inadvertently lost the pet on the A14 motorway without realizing it. The animal was subsequently rescued, secured, and cared for by police. The incident occurred on the Marche region stretch of the A14.
The dog, found wandering on the northbound carriageway near the Foglia Service Area and an acceleration lane, was rescued by the Fano Highway Police. The presence of the animal posed a danger to the heavy traffic flow towards Bologna and to the dog’s own safety, prompting officers to intervene. They secured the confused and agitated animal.
The dog was then taken into the patrol car. By reading its microchip, the police were able to identify and contact the owners. The dog belonged to a family with three children who were traveling to Milan and had not noticed the pet was missing from their vehicle.
While awaiting the family’s return to the scene near Rimini, the police provided food and water to the approximately 13-year-old dog.
