EU Set to Expand US Imports Including Lobster, Bison Meat

The European Union is preparing to open its doors to increased imports of lobster and bison meat from the United States. This forms part of a tariff agreement confirmed with Washington, according to European sources. The deal involves the elimination of EU duties on a selection of non-sensitive agro-food products imported from overseas, with an estimated total value of around €70 billion.

Products covered by the liberalization include US goods such as nuts, soybeans, lobster, fish, cheese, selected dairy products, pet food, fertilizers, and certain chemicals. These chemicals are also noted as a strategic alternative to Russian supplies.

The agreement, it is reiterated, does not include concessions on agricultural goods deemed sensitive. Therefore, beef, sugar, ethanol, and poultry remain excluded.
