Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has stated that electoral consultations represent a “particularly sensitive target” for hostile actors. The minister made the remarks during his address at the General States conference on Defense, Space, and Cybersecurity, held at the ESA’s Esrin center in Frascati.
Minister Piantedosi highlighted the threats posed by cyber attacks and disinformation campaigns, noting that “the rapid and automated spread of manipulative content on social networks can amplify its impact, with the risk of influencing public debate.”
“As Interior Minister,” he added, “I am well aware that safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process, and therefore our democracy, also means defending the digital space from these new forms of pressure.”
