A 26-year-old Moroccan national is facing multiple charges after a drunk driving incident that culminated in a crashed vehicle and a false police report. The event occurred in the early hours of the morning on Via Venezia in Ravenna.
The man, behind the wheel of a Mercedes, first collided with two parked cars. The impact caused his own vehicle to flip onto its side, blocking the road. Despite being visibly intoxicated, he fled the scene on foot. In an attempt to mislead authorities, he subsequently reported his car as stolen to police.
His story was quickly disproven by a unit of the Local Police, who had arrived to investigate the crash and had already gathered evidence and witness testimony placing him at the wheel. The man was located while trying to hide under another parked vehicle and became aggressive upon his arrest.
He refused to submit to both alcohol and drug tests. In addition to being charged for this refusal and for driving under the influence, he was also cited for fabricating a crime. The man received numerous administrative violations under the Highway Code, resulting in fines totalling approximately 1,000 euros and the deduction of over 50 points from his license, which was confiscated. His vehicle was also impounded.
