According to initial investigations by the Carabinieri, Vincenzo Crudo, the man who on the night of March 29th hit and killed 20-year-old Noemi Fiordilino without rendering aid, had a blood alcohol level of 1.46 grams per liter. The victim and her boyfriend had exited their car to help a rabbit on the road in Lurago Marinone, in the Como area.
However, the family’s lawyer, Edoardo Mastice, is preparing a legal challenge. He explained to *Il Corriere della Sera*: “We are waiting for the prosecutor to integrate the investigation with the results from our experts. For instance, we have demonstrated that his blood alcohol level at 2 a.m., the time of the impact, was 1.80. With a value that high, the sentence ranges from 8 to 12 years.” This difference is legally significant. “With a level under 1.5, a lower sentence, and a summary trial,” Mastice continued, “the suspect could receive a sentence of less than 4 years and request probation. If it is recognized that the level was above 1.5, he will not get under 7 years and would consequently serve prison time.”
The man was driving with an expired license and had a leg in a cast. When military police arrived at his home, he was in a state of intoxication and claimed his car had been stolen. The vehicle was later found abandoned in a field.
He was arrested and, after three months, confessed. He was subsequently granted house arrest and is now awaiting trial.
