Coast Guard Rescues 30 Migrants Off Calabrian Coast in Latest Roccella Jonica Landing

A group of 30 male migrants, predominantly Bangladeshi and Egyptian nationals including approximately ten unaccompanied minors, landed at Roccella Jonica port early this morning. The migrants were rescued offshore by the Roccella Jonica Coast Guard, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Daniele Ticconi. They had departed Libya on Friday evening aboard a roughly 7-meter fiberglass vessel and were intercepted approximately 150 miles off the Calabrian coast amid rough seas.

Following transfer to a Coast Guard patrol boat, the group was brought ashore at Roccella Jonica. After initial processing by law enforcement and medical personnel from the Reggio Calabria health authority, the migrants were placed in the care of Red Cross volunteers. They are being temporarily housed at the initial reception and assistance center established within the port area.

This morning’s arrival marks the twelfth migrant landing at Roccella Jonica port within the last four months.
