‘Clean Schools’ Initiative Launched Ahead of New Academic Year in Rome

A joint ‘Clean Schools’ plan by Ama and Risorse Per Roma is now operational in preparation for the new school year. The interventions, which began at the start of the month, are targeting school campuses across the entire city.

The activities cover all types of educational institutions—nurseries, preschools, primary, and secondary schools—and have been scheduled according to their reopening dates, with priority given to nurseries and preschools, which are among the first to resume operations. The plan entails comprehensive cleaning of the schools, including exterior and access areas, as well as indoor spaces, along with the disposal of any bulky waste present.

Ama has enhanced its street and sidewalk sweeping services near the entrances of approximately 1,400 schools, from the suburbs to the city center. Dedicated teams of two to three workers, supported by mechanical sweepers and washers, are carrying out the operations. Waste collection stations near the schools have been washed and sanitized, while checks are ongoing on the functionality and adequacy of door-to-door collection containers assigned to schools. Concurrently, weed control operations on sidewalks and adjacent road sections are continuing to complete the overall urban decor restoration.

Meanwhile, the cleaning within the school perimeters is being handled by Risorse Per Roma, which is currently intensifying its maintenance rounds for the approximately 589 nurseries and preschools under its jurisdiction. The goal is to properly restore the facilities and ensure they are ready to welcome young students back to the classroom.

“The return to school is an important moment for the entire city,” stated Ama President Bruno Manzi. “Together with Risorse per Roma, we are working attentively and carefully in the public spaces of school campuses to concretely support this transition and help create a welcoming and orderly environment for students and their families as activities resume.”

“This is a significant commitment,” commented Fabio Bellini, President of Risorse per Roma. “In collaboration with Ama, we are working to provide a comprehensive cleaning and beautification service for school campuses. The targeted interventions include not only maintenance and cleaning—such as mowing and upkeep of school gardens—but also the exterior and access areas of the institutions.”
