In response to the devastating wildfires that recently tore through Villasimius and other areas of Sardinia, destroying businesses and crippling local communities, the association Sardegna Futura – MBN has taken action. The group, uniting over 60 entrepreneurs dedicated to promoting the island, formed a dedicated task force. Within days, this group personally funded and completed the reconstruction of the Punta Molentis beach kiosk.
“We cannot remain indifferent to tragedies like those that struck Villasimius, causing a true environmental and business catastrophe,” stated Andrea Podda, President of Sardegna Futura and founder of consultancy firm MAB & Co. “Since our association formed last January, we have always worked to support our island and its economic fabric. Therefore, faced with the tragedy that hit Giorgio Tolomei and his family – the destruction of his kiosk – we immediately mobilized to help him recover as quickly as possible.”
Sardegna Futura organized a fundraising evening. The proceeds, combined with donations secured via the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform, enabled the immediate purchase of materials for the kiosk’s rebuilding. “But materials alone wouldn’t have been enough,” clarified Podda. “Thanks also to the crucial intervention of a Sardegna Futura member who owns a construction company, we obtained the necessary tools and machinery. Then, through the work and commitment of all our volunteers, within just five days of the ‘construction site’, the Punta Molentis Kiosk was reborn and is ready to welcome tourists for the second half of the season.”
“It was the worst day of my life,” recalled Giorgio Tolomei. “Days later, I still wake up startled at night and smell the smoke. For this reason too, and for the immediate closeness I received, I will never stop thanking Sardegna Futura for everything they are doing for us.”
