Paolo Bolognesi, president of the August 2nd Association, directly addressed Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a commemoration at Bologna station. Responding to her accusation that critics sought to expose her to retaliation, Bolognesi stated: “To the President of the Council, who accused us of wanting to expose her to retaliation while recalling her past – like the past of those who carried out the massacres – we want to say one thing is respect for the Institutions, another is the acceptance of self-serving historical rewrites. This we are in no way willing to let pass.”
Bolognesi further challenged the Prime Minister: “President Meloni,” he declared, “condemning the Bologna massacre without recognising and condemning its fascist roots is like condemning the fruit of a poisonous plant while continuing to water its roots.”
