A series of significant art exhibitions has opened across Italy, showcasing a diverse range of works from iconic painters to contemporary African photography.
In BOLOGNA, the exhibition dedicated to the recently deceased Scottish painter Jack Vettriano has reopened at Palazzo Pallavicini. Running from August 21st to September 21st, the show presents 70 of Vettriano’s most iconic works to an Italian audience for the first time. Curated by Francesca Bogliolo, the collection is defined by its noir style, often featuring romantic themes, nudes, and evocative, sensual atmospheres.
NAPLES hosts “The Black Sun” at the Maschio Angioino castle until September 24th. This extensive exhibition is dedicated to African photography from the period of independence to the present day, featuring over 250 works by 44 artists and photographic studios from across the continent. Curated by Simon Njami, the project will also include an international phase exploring the intangible, ritual, and sonic relationship between Naples and Africa.
In LONGIANO (FC), the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum presents “The Etching for Leonardo Sciascia” until October 19th. The exhibition, organized by the Tito Balestra Foundation, features 90 etchings by Giorgio Morandi, Luigi Bartolini, Giuseppe Viviani, and Edo Janich—artists particularly admired by the late writer Sciascia.
CAVALESE’s Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting “Three Acts. Pichler, Zhuka, Marinelli,” a widespread exhibition until November 2nd. Curated by Elsa Barbieri, it features the diverse works of artists Anneliese Pichler, Erjola Zhuka, and Giuseppe Marinelli, creating a dialogue between painting, photography, and sculpture set against the landscape.
In ACIREALE, art and science converge at the historic Santa Tecla Water Consortium until October 26th. The exhibition “In the Making: Identity Between Volcano and Water” by Oriana Tabacco for Basaltika pairs the works of seven artists with the scientific research of geologists and volcanologists to interpret the dual nature of Mount Etna.
Finally, in PIETRASANTA, the Antonia Jannone Gallery is showing works by Elena Carozzi, Gianlorenzo Gasperini, and Marco Palmieri until August 29th. The exhibition presents a journey through metaphysical landscapes and everyday environments, viewed through a lens of universal symbolism.
