Colombian authorities, acting on orders from the Judicial Authority of the Magdalena Department, executed restrictive measures against two Colombian citizens on July 30 and August 14. The individuals are believed to be responsible for the murder of Alessandro Coatti, a researcher from Ferrara, Italy. The killing occurred on April 6 in Santa Marta, according to an announcement from the Rome Prosecutor’s Office.
These latest measures follow similar actions taken against four other Colombian nationals in May for their involvement in the crime. The Rome Prosecutor’s Office stated that its investigation, developed on a national level, has been carried out through “diversified and complex investigations conducted by the Carabinieri ROS with great punctuality and effectiveness.”
The investigations, conducted in cooperation with the Sectional Prosecutor’s Office of the Magdalena Department under a mutual legal assistance request, involved Colombian police agencies and the constant support of the International Police Cooperation Service. The probe was characterized not only by interviews with individuals informed on the facts but also by meticulous technical analysis of objects and electronic devices belonging to the victim.
The Rome Prosecutor’s Office added that the in-depth examination of the victim’s computer equipment was pivotal. It helped illuminate Coatti’s final days, particularly his movements within Santa Marta, contributed to reconstructing the phases of the homicide, and provided crucial elements for identifying the perpetrators.
