Renowned architect Stefano Boeri has denounced the proposed American post-war plan for the Gaza Strip as a “horrific and violent projection of an unacceptable and perverse future.” In an interview with ANSA, Boeri stated that the plan, known as the “Riviera Plan,” presupposes “the deportation and forced diaspora of thousands of families already exposed to a continuous threat of death.”
Boeri expressed particular dismay that the plan reportedly draws inspiration from his iconic Vertical Forest building in Milan. “I see it as a grim paradox,” he added, noting that his prototype was designed to promote “harmony with nature and the history of places.” He emphasized that his architecture has proven capable of hosting “not only housing for the wealthy but social housing for rent, public spaces, and healthcare services.”
Beyond the Vertical Forest in Milan, Boeri’s firm has applied similar principles to public spaces in Utrecht, residential buildings in Eindhoven, and projects in China, including the Rehabilitation Center designed for Shenzhen.
