All-Day Beatles Listening Marathon to Celebrate Band’s Legacy in Rome

For the first time, a complete listening marathon of the Beatles’ entire recorded work will be held on October 5th at the Spazio Risonanze in Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. From 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, all 210 of the band’s tracks will be played in chronological order over an eight-hour session, beginning with their first single, “Love Me Do,” and concluding with “The End,” the final track on the Abbey Road album.

The free, public event is designed as a collective ritual, allowing attendees to come and go freely throughout the day. The marathon will be hosted and curated by music critic Gino Castaldo, who will be joined by special guests providing commentary, anecdotes, and insights to enrich the experience.

This event offers more than a chance to relive the musical journey of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. It is conceived as an immersive, shared experience that transforms listening into a collective celebration, reviving the communal spirit that music can generate through the enduring power of the Beatles.

To know and rediscover the Beatles is to engage with the roots of contemporary pop and rock music. For younger generations, listening to their complete works offers a unique journey into the cultural history of the twentieth century and an opportunity to understand how their creativity influenced countless artists and continues to resonate with vitality today.

The date, October 5th, holds significant weight in pop culture history. On that day in 1962, the Beatles’ first single, “Love Me Do,” and the first James Bond film, “Dr. No,” were simultaneously released—a dual debut that cemented England’s place at the center of the global cultural scene.

The event is dedicated to the memory of Ernesto Assante, a renowned music journalist and critic, and a passionate Beatles scholar, who passed away in February 2024. As Gino Castaldo recalled, “On October 5, 2012, with Ernesto and a group of wonderful, excited fans, we went to Liverpool by coach, like in the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Love Me Do.” The initiative was conceived by Gino Castaldo and is produced by the Fondazione Musica per Roma.
