The Abruzzo Regional Council has authorized €500,000 in extraordinary funding for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The initiative will be coordinated through Italy’s Foreign Ministry and internationally accredited organizations.
Approval occurred during an overnight budget session, where an amendment initially rejected was ultimately passed. Democratic Party (PD) councilor Pierpaolo Pietrucci—who entered the chamber displaying a Palestinian flag—proposed the measure.
Debate turned contentious when Brothers of Italy (FdI) councilor Paolo Gatti, head of the Health Commission, challenged whether aid would reach Gaza’s civilians and children amid the conflict, prompting a heated exchange.
