The stretch of the Autosole (A1) highway between the Rome North branch junction and Ponzano Romano has reopened to traffic in both directions. As announced by Autostrade per l’Italia, northbound lanes resumed operation around 11:30 a.m., following the removal of the heavy goods vehicle that caught fire Monday afternoon at kilometer 525. This clearance restored travel toward both Rome and Florence. Autostrade emphasized that “reopening was only possible after complex and lengthy operations to secure the entire highway section.”
Currently, southbound traffic utilizes all available lanes in the affected area, while northbound traffic uses two lanes to facilitate ongoing restoration work. Simultaneously, the section between Fiano Romano and the junction with the A1 Milan-Naples highway toward Florence on the Rome North branch has also reopened. Residual congestion is reported, with queues stretching 2 km (1.2 miles) toward Rome between Orvieto and Attigliano.
