A heavy volley of tear gas fired by police in Milan effectively dispersed a group of protesters who, for approximately two hours, had been attempting to enter the city’s Central Station at the conclusion of a march for Gaza. From inside the station, law enforcement officers moved into Piazza Duca d’Aosta, firing numerous tear gas canisters that forced the demonstrators to flee towards Via Vittor Pisani.
Earlier, after the station’s gates were closed, there had been numerous attempts by the protesters to break through, with objects being thrown at the police units remaining inside.
Law enforcement officers, including both state police and carabinieri in full riot gear, continued to advance, pushing the protesters further down Via Vittor Pisani, the long avenue connecting the Central Station with Piazza della Repubblica, in the direction of Via Turati. The firing of tear gas continues, to which the protesters are responding by throwing whatever they can find, including stones, waste bins, and bicycles.
