Sant’Anna di Stazzema Child Survivor Ennio Bazzichi Passes Away

Another child survivor of the Sant’Anna di Stazzema massacre, Ennio Bazzichi, has died. He was just three years old on August 12, 1944, the day of the Nazi atrocity that killed 560 civilians in the hills of Versilia. On that day, he and his family were in the hamlet of Sennari and survived.

They were left homeless after their residence was set ablaze. Shortly thereafter, while still a young child, he moved to the neighboring village of Case di Berna. The family lived in profound poverty, often without food. He later managed to rebuild his life, becoming a well-known and highly respected construction entrepreneur in Versilia. He never forgot Sant’Anna and was one of the founders of the Martiri di Sant’Anna (Martyrs of Sant’Anna) Association.

The most heartfelt condolences to his children, Gloria and Andrea, and the entire family have been sent by the Sant’Anna National Museum and Park and the Stazzema Municipality. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:00 PM at the Church of Vaiana. He will be laid to rest in the family tomb at the Sant’Anna cemetery.
