A protest to denounce the “unfair competition” from ride-hailing services, particularly Uber, is underway in the designated public vehicle parking area of Piazza Duca d’Aosta next to Milan’s Central Station. Taxi drivers are refusing fares, except for those of strict necessity such as trips to hospitals. Passengers are being redirected to the other side of the station in Piazza IV Novembre, where all taxis remain in operation. Milanese cab drivers have long complained about alleged illicit practices by ride-hailing companies and are calling for increased regulatory controls.
