A man was attacked with an axe on Via Paolo Sarpi in Milan following a furious altercation. The incident occurred this morning around 11 a.m. in the city’s Chinatown district. According to an initial reconstruction, a violent argument broke out between two Chinese nationals. One of them then chased the other and struck him with the blade, inflicting serious injuries.
The victim is in surgery at Niguarda Hospital but is not in life-threatening danger. A later update established that the 36-year-old victim was attacked at the intersection of Via Sarpi and Via Nicolini by a 33-year-old assailant with a criminal record, who used a large kitchen knife. The assault happened in front of passersby, who immediately raised the alarm.
The attacker, now in custody, subsequently went into a bar and entered the restroom to wash his hands and the blade of the knife. Upon exiting the establishment, he was identified by witnesses to the police officers who had by then been alerted.
The 36-year-old was conscious when transported to the hospital, having sustained wounds to an arm and a leg. The aggressor has been arrested by State Police on charges of attempted murder.
