The Carabinieri of Rome’s Provincial Command continued their operations this weekend to prevent and combat illegal motor vehicle and motorcycle races in the capital. The ongoing initiative, coordinated with other law enforcement agencies, follows the strategic directives outlined by Rome’s Prefect, Dr. Lamberto Giannini, and aims to ensure public order and safety.
In a targeted operation last night, Carabinieri from the Ostia Company focused their efforts on the area surrounding the “Leonardo da Vinci” shopping center, a location previously scrutinized in similar recent checks. This latest action, conducted by officers from the Fiumicino Station alongside colleagues from the Ostia Company’s Radio Mobile Unit and the Rome Ponte Galeria Station, led to the identification and reporting of four young individuals.
The four suspects—a 23-year-old driving a Mercedes car, a 16-year-old on a Yamaha 125 motorcycle, and two 19-year-olds on a Yamaha 125 and a Benelli motorcycle, respectively—were caught racing. They have been charged with the serious offense of “organizing and participating in unauthorized speed competitions with motor vehicles.”
As a result, the Carabinieri have confiscated all four vehicles for eventual forfeiture and revoked the drivers’ licenses.
