The Accademia Filarmonica Romana resumes its concert season on September 17th with the “Fratres” project, followed on September 18th by the launch of the fifth edition of its “Autumn Dialogues” series.
After its initial dates in June, the “Fratres” series—part of the Lazio Sacred Music Festival 2025 and inspired by the eponymous composition by Arvo Pärt (who celebrated his 90th birthday on September 11th)—will present a spotlight on the accordion. The event will be held at the Parish of Santa Chiara on Via Zandonai 4 (5 PM, free admission) and will feature Samuele Telari. Recognized as one of Italy’s talented new-generation musicians, Telari’s program juxtaposes works by Dmitri Shostakovich and György Ligeti with more recent compositions by Nicola Campogrande, Bruno Mantovani, Sofia Gubaidulina, and American saxophonist John Zorn, concluding with a tribute to Bach.
The “Autumn Dialogues” cycle opens at 8 PM at the institution’s headquarters, the Casella Hall on Via Flaminia 118. Now in its fifth year and held in collaboration with the William Walton Foundation and La Mortella Gardens on Ischia, this series promotes young performers from the specialization courses of major music academies and schools. The artists will perform a trio of concerts: one on Thursday at the Philharmonic Academy in Rome, followed by two on the subsequent Saturday and Sunday at Ischia’s La Mortella Gardens, where the Rome program will be repeated.
The opening concert will feature Lucca-born brothers Niccolò and Lorenzo Corsaro on viola and piano. Their performance will include Franz Schubert’s “Arpeggione” Sonata—named for an instrument invented by a Viennese luthier, a hybrid of cello and guitar with a highly distinctive timbre—and Johannes Brahms’ Sonata in F minor, Op. 120, No. 1.
