ENPA Rimini’s animal welfare officers rescued a kitten last Thursday after it spent five days trapped on the noise barrier wall of the A14 motorway near km 128 on Via Montescudo. The small black feline, nicknamed Zorro by rescuers as reported by the Rimini edition of ‘Corriere Romagna’, was unable to descend from its precarious position among the brambles.
The intervention proved complex due to the limited space and the inherent danger of the location. After contacting the A14 third section control room to secure support from the Highway Police, the officers were forced to deploy a trap cage. It was necessary to temporarily block access to the actual roadway to prevent the animal from falling into traffic. The local newspaper further explained that an intervention by the Fire Brigade would also have been risky, as the cat could have plummeted or escaped into the conduits within the motorway wall.
It remains unclear how the kitten ended up in this situation; it may have climbed up from the surrounding brambles or been abandoned directly on the highway.
Zorro is now safe and has already been adopted by an interested couple, after initially being placed in the temporary care of the owners of a private home adjacent to the rescue site.
