A criminal association of six individuals dedicated to car theft and trafficking using falsified documents has been dismantled by the Carabinieri in the Milan area. Twenty people are under investigation, including a 63-year-old commissario (superintendent) from the Cesano Boscone local police force.
The ring carried out numerous thefts of common vehicles. After stealing the cars, they would park them on isolated streets before moving them to a warehouse. There, with the help of skilled forgers, they replaced the license plates and vehicle identification numbers, printing their own fake documentation. The altered vehicles were then sold to complicit individuals who would traffic them onward.
Among the six arrested, all Italian nationals, the task of stealing the cars was assigned specifically to a father and son, aged 58 and 27. The other four members handled organizational or document forgery duties. According to the accusations, the local police officer was in contact with the latter group. His alleged role was to warn the ring if anyone began to suspect their activities at the warehouse, which was located near the local police headquarters.
The investigation, which covered the period from September 2022 to December 2024, has led to charges for 33 thefts and 20 instances of receiving stolen goods.
