PD parliamentarian Piero De Luca returned to the Cooper Standard plant in Salerno this morning, joining workers at their permanent vigil. He emphasized the critical need to keep attention focused on what he described as a national excellence, not merely a southern Italian one, which is unique in producing specific auto components for Stellantis. “There is a concrete risk that part of the production, or even all of it in the future, could be relocated to Poland,” De Luca stated, “and we cannot afford to close our eyes to this.”
The MP said he was there to listen to the workers’ concerns and support their battle. “We demand clarity from the company, the management, and also from Stellantis regarding the future of the plant. Nearly 400 workers are directly involved, with thousands more in the supply chain; hundreds of families risk facing dramatic uncertainty. This area cannot afford to lose such an important and strategic production facility,” he added. De Luca also criticized the government, asserting it has failed to support the industry: “Over 4 billion euros cut from the automotive fund send a clear signal of inattention to the sector.”
De Luca confirmed he would request that Minister Urso convene an urgent meeting in Rome to address the situation immediately, secure certainty on orders, and safeguard employment levels. “I will fight with strength and determination in the coming weeks,” he concluded, “because the future of hundreds of families and an entire community cannot be put at risk.”
