Following the Namibian elephant and the blue whale sculptures displayed in recent months for the 24th International Exhibition *Inequalities*, the entrance to the Triennale Milano is now overseen by the third work from artist Jacopo Allegrucci: a Rothschild’s giraffe. The monumental sculpture is part of the series ‘The Fragility of the Future,’ which consists of four animals made from papier-mâché. It takes the place of the elephant, which will be moved to the Triennale Garden. At the end of the Exhibition, all the animals will be on view there, with the exception of the blue whale, which was destroyed in an act of vandalism in July.
Created by Allegrucci specifically for *Inequalities* (running until November 9, 2025), the series of animals expresses an urgent and profound reflection on the environmental and social fractures threatening the Earth’s balance. By reproducing animal species at risk of extinction, the artist draws a parallel with the fragile and temporary nature of the material they are made from—papier-mâché—which thus becomes a symbol of vulnerability and decay.
