ROME – The student group Cambiare Rotta has returned to camp out at La Sapienza University, establishing a permanent protest in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla. Amid Palestinian flags and slogans denouncing the genocide in Gaza, the student mobilization began to support the mission attempting to break the Israeli blockade.
In a social media post, the activists stated, “Following yesterday’s massive rally in Rome, dozens of students today began a permanent sit-in at the Sapienza university campus. In solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla, the tents—now a symbol of student mobilizations—are back.” They added, “We want justice for every Palestinian killed, for every child who has died of hunger, for every doctor and journalist assassinated. Israel must be isolated, boycotted, and sanctioned. Genocide, ethnic cleansing, occupation, and apartheid must end now.”
The university students issued a call to action: “We launch an appeal: students across Italy must set an example, answer the call of the longshoremen, and turn every university, every school, into a permanent outpost of solidarity with the Flotilla.” A press conference has been announced for tomorrow at 11:00 at the Minerva statue on campus.
