Italian Industry Leaders Urge EU for Immediate Action on Auto Sector

The Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, and Anfia President Roberto Vavassori will “forcefully ask the European Commission to immediately transform the strategic dialogue into strategic actions.” This was stated in a joint release following a meeting at Palazzo Piacentini to discuss strategic issues for the future of the automotive industry in Italy and Europe, and to receive an update on Stellantis’s activities in the country.

The statement explained that the meeting specifically delved into the topic of commercial vehicles, highlighting the necessity and urgency of revising current European regulations, which were deemed unrealistic and detrimental to the industry’s future. Another key topic was how to facilitate the production of small cars, a central market segment in Italy, including through the promotion of an evolution in European legislation.

Urso, Filosa, and Vavassori agreed “to meet again shortly to examine an update to the study on the competitiveness and prospects of the Italian supply chain and to intensify dialogue with the European Commission and member states in the coming days.” Their goal is to restore technological neutrality and secure flexibility within the CO2 regulations for both light and heavy-duty vehicles.
