The exhibition “The Bridge of Civita: 60 Years of an Icon” has opened in Bagnoregio, in the province of Viterbo. The display, commissioned by the Municipality of Bagnoregio and produced by Casa Civita S.r.l., is hosted within Palazzo Alemanni. It chronicles the history of the bridge, celebrated as a symbol of the tenacity of the local Civita community, the skill and perseverance of the great 20th-century intellectual Bonaventura Tecchi, and of Italian technical genius.
Scheduled to be inaugurated on September 12th at 4:00 PM, the exhibition is the result of an extensive and valuable collection of historical, archival, iconographic, and photographic documentation assembled by geologist Claudio Margottini. With a long career as a UNESCO expert, a university professor in Italy and China, a member of the Italian Geological Service, and culminating in the prestigious role of Scientific Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Egypt, Professor Margottini served as the curator. In this capacity, he provided not only his own scientific expertise but also the fruits of a research and collection effort that spanned nearly fifty years.
“60 years after this bridge of ours changed the way we access Civita, we decided to give something back to it,” explained Mayor Luca Profili. “We want to thank it for its good service. Millions of people have crossed it, which is incredible when you think it leads to a tiny village with scarcely a dozen residents.”
Today, the bridge of Civita di Bagnoregio enables millions of tourists each year to visit one of the world’s most well-known and cherished villages.
